COVID-19 Food Drive

COVID-19 impacted all of our lives. However, it had been extremely cruel to some in desperate need. The not-for-profit organizations and several charities were collecting funds to help the most vulnerable groups in our society during these unprecedented times. In our efforts to contribute, vTech collaborated with the region’s largest hunger-relief organization, the Capital Area Food Bank (CAFB), and are assisting their mission of providing food to nearly 400,000 children and families who had limited access to food in our region. In the face of social distancing measures, coupled with school and workplace lock downs resulted in the scarcity of nutritious food. Facing the wrath of the pandemic, these children and working families are deprived of one of t he necessities of life, i.e., food. They needed our help all the more.

Pulmonary Fibrosis

The term “pulmonary” refers to the lungs, while “fibrosis” denotes scar tissue, akin to scars on the skin from past injuries or surgeries. So, pulmonary fibrosis (PF) essentially translates to scarring in the lungs. However, PF is more severe than a simple lung scar. In PF, scar tissue accumulates in the air sac walls, making it difficult for oxygen to enter the bloodstream. This, coupled with low oxygen levels and rigid scar tissue, leads to breathlessness, especially during physical activities.

Pulmonary fibrosis isn’t a single disease but a family of over 200 similar-looking lung diseases, categorized under “interstitial lung diseases.” While some interstitial lung diseases don’t involve scar tissue, those that do are termed pulmonary fibrosis.

The Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation’s mission is to help people comprehend the implications of pulmonary fibrosis. Serving as a trusted resource for those affected, their signature programs include the PFF Care Center Network, PFF Patient Registry, PFF Patient Communication Center, PFF Ambassador Program, an international network of support groups and online communities, the PFF Summit, and comprehensive disease education materials.
